Desalination Energy Efficiency and Water Loss Reduction Advisory, India

PUB Consultants (PUBC), in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under its Water Organisation Partnerships for Resilience (WOP4R) programme, provided targeted advisory services to a major metropolitan water utility in India to improve the performance of its water supply system. The engagement covered two key areas.

First, PUBC conducted a diagnostic assessment of the energy efficiency of the client's seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants, evaluating treatment processes, power consumption, and raw water quality, and recommended technologies and approaches to sustain and improve energy efficiency, including advanced low-energy desalination technologies and digitalisation of plant operations.

Second, PUBC assessed the client's water loss reduction practices across its extensive distribution network, covering leak detection, metering, network management, and water tariff structures, and provided both immediate and long-term recommendations to reduce non-revenue water and improve service reliability.

Drawing on PUB Singapore's deep expertise in desalination operations and network management, PUBC delivered practical, evidence-based recommendations to support the client in working towards its mission of providing adequate, good-quality water supply to the communities it serves.
